Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Financials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.45% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG), which rose 5.85% or 0.51 points to trade at 9.23 at the close. PrairieSky Royalty Ltd (TSX:PSK) added 5.68% or 0.78 points to end at 14.52 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) was up 5.68% or 0.61 points to 11.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AcuityAds Holdings Inc (TSX:AT), which lost 8.76% or 1.140 points to trade at 11.870 in late trade. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) declined 6.61% or 0.58 points to end at 8.19 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 5.83% or 1.64 points to 26.41.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 593 to 452 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.33% or 6.25 to $1859.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.99% or 1.41 to hit $72.29 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.78% or 1.30 to trade at $74.16 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.35% to 0.8204, while CAD/EUR fell 0.39% to 0.6765.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 90.510.
