Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Healthcare and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Russel Metals Inc . (TSX:RUS), which rose 6.23% or 2.11 points to trade at 35.96 at the close. Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) added 4.57% or 0.26 points to end at 5.95 and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV) was up 3.50% or 0.28 points to 8.28 in late trade.
Biggest losers included B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO), which lost 4.97% or 0.24 points to trade at 4.59 in late trade. Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) declined 2.89% or 0.61 points to end at 20.52 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) shed 2.74% or 0.27 points to 9.59.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 570 to 425 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.59% to 12.04.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.51% or 9.60 to $1,864.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.63% or 0.50 to hit $79.22 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.56% or 0.48 to trade at $85.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.32% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 103.20.
