Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which rose 3.73% or 1.51 points to trade at 42.03 at the close. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) added 2.84% or 1.99 points to end at 72.05 and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) was up 2.79% or 1.68 points to 61.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included LifeWorks Inc (TSX:LWRK), which lost 1.94% or 0.51 points to trade at 25.75 in late trade. Docebo Inc (TSX:DCBO) declined 1.68% or 1.55 points to end at 90.60 and Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) shed 1.65% or 0.41 points to 24.44.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 545 to 372 and 141 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.82% to 12.08.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 4.05 to $1788.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.40% or 0.31 to hit $78.08 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.05 to trade at $82.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.16% to 0.7905, while CAD/EUR rose 0.09% to 0.7053.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 96.757.
