Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.42% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ShawCor Ltd . (TO:SCL), which rose 12.30% or 3.02 points to trade at 27.58 at the close. ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) added 5.41% or 0.080 points to end at 1.560 and Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) was up 4.07% or 0.48 points to 12.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DHX Media Ltd B (TO:DHXb), which lost 5.30% or 0.38 points to trade at 6.79 in late trade. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) declined 3.98% or 0.170 points to end at 4.100 and Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC) shed 3.56% or 0.54 points to 14.61.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 607 to 482 and 149 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 15.85% to 9.98.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.61% or 21.21 to $1295.19 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $50.72 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.36% or 0.20 to trade at $56.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.06% to 0.8110, while CAD/EUR fell 0.45% to 0.6793.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 91.99.
