Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.41% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TO:ELD), which rose 27.46% or 1.06 points to trade at 4.92 at the close. Aphria Inc (TO:APHA) added 14.23% or 1.430 points to end at 11.480 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) was up 9.23% or 0.240 points to 2.840 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Methanex Corporation (TO:MX), which lost 5.28% or 3.99 points to trade at 71.60 in late trade. Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TO:VII) declined 4.85% or 0.52 points to end at 10.20 and NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO:NVA) shed 4.82% or 0.200 points to 3.950.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 624 to 492 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.42% to 16.36 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.76% or 10.05 to $1325.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.44% or 0.24 to hit $53.99 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.43 to trade at $61.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.18% to 0.7618, while CAD/EUR rose 0.48% to 0.6655.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 95.292.
