Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Financials, Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which rose 6.69% or 0.19 points to trade at 3.03 at the close. Filo Mining Corp (TSX:FIL) added 6.18% or 1.14 points to end at 19.59 and BROOKFIELD ASSET MANAGEMENT LTD (TSX:BAM) was up 5.19% or 2.39 points to 48.52 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which lost 10.13% or 1.28 points to trade at 11.36 in late trade. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) declined 7.26% or 0.81 points to end at 10.35 and Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) shed 5.18% or 0.16 points to 2.93.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 616 to 356 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.52% to 11.61 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.26% or 5.35 to $2,045.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.71% or 1.31 to hit $77.72 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.46% or 1.19 to trade at $82.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 102.74.
