Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, IT and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 8.65% or 1.74 points to trade at 21.86 at the close. NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI) added 7.49% or 1.24 points to end at 17.80 and New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) was up 5.29% or 0.120 points to 2.390 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE), which lost 6.36% or 0.33 points to trade at 4.86 in late trade. Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) declined 5.59% or 0.09 points to end at 1.52 and Suncor Energy Inc (TSX:SU) shed 4.79% or 0.78 points to 15.49.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 575 to 463 and 119 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.80% or 15.20 to $1910.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.88% or 1.56 to hit $38.66 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 3.43% or 1.45 to trade at $40.85 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.30% to 0.7530, while CAD/EUR rose 0.09% to 0.6411.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 93.773.
