Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 13.13% or 1.58 points to trade at 13.61 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) added 10.83% or 3.075 points to end at 31.465 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was up 8.33% or 0.100 points to 1.300 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Superior Plus Corp (TSX:SPB), which lost 7.41% or 0.94 points to trade at 11.74 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI) declined 4.83% or 0.26 points to end at 5.12 and Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) shed 4.76% or 0.30 points to 6.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 661 to 375 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.66% or 10.35 to $1567.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.83% or 0.44 to hit $53.58 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.33 to trade at $58.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.24% to 0.7597, while CAD/EUR rose 0.24% to 0.6894.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 97.797.
