Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Clean Technology, IT and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 6.91% or 0.90 points to trade at 13.93 at the close. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) added 6.40% or 0.160 points to end at 2.660 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was up 5.69% or 0.070 points to 1.300 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR), which lost 5.31% or 0.33 points to trade at 5.89 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) declined 5.05% or 0.140 points to end at 2.630 and Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF) shed 3.94% or 0.110 points to 2.680.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 553 to 476 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.43% or 6.85 to $1581.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 3.12% or 1.61 to hit $49.95 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 4.20% or 2.38 to trade at $54.24 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.42% to 0.7523, while CAD/EUR fell 0.11% to 0.6803.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 97.670.
