Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the IT, Energy and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Stantec Inc (TSX:STN), which rose 8.58% or 7.48 points to trade at 94.66 at the close. SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:ATRL) added 8.19% or 3.31 points to end at 43.75 and Headwater Exploration Inc (TSX:HWX) was up 6.46% or 0.45 points to 7.42 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF), which lost 21.84% or 10.69 points to trade at 38.25 in late trade. Saputo Inc (TSX:SAP) declined 5.85% or 1.70 points to end at 27.35 and Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (TSX:NWH_u) shed 5.29% or 0.24 points to 4.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 516 to 442 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.55% to 15.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.44% or 28.45 to $1,941.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.17% or 1.64 to hit $77.38 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.01% or 1.61 to trade at $81.62 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 105.67.
