Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Clean Technology and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS), which rose 6.30% or 2.97 points to trade at 50.15 at the close. Trisura Group Ltd (TSX:TSU) added 5.98% or 8.76 points to end at 155.19 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) was up 5.64% or 1.18 points to 22.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which lost 4.02% or 0.16 points to trade at 3.82 in late trade. Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) declined 3.56% or 0.35 points to end at 9.49 and SunOpta Inc . (TSX:SOY) shed 3.05% or 0.47 points to 14.95.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 545 to 491 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.17% or 3.05 to $1779.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.25% or 0.18 to hit $72.94 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $74.92 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.43% to 0.8124, while CAD/EUR rose 0.17% to 0.6798.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 91.683.
