Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.31% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which rose 9.86% or 0.140 points to trade at 1.560 at the close. West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TSX:WFT) added 8.85% or 5.16 points to end at 63.44 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) was up 7.70% or 50.44 points to 705.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pretium Resources Inc. (TSX:PVG), which lost 21.54% or 2.74 points to trade at 9.98 in late trade. Finning International Inc . (TSX:FTT) declined 8.75% or 2.10 points to end at 21.90 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) shed 5.85% or 0.120 points to 1.930.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 640 to 402 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.09% or 1.35 to $1568.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 3.22% or 1.61 to hit $51.55 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 3.91% or 2.11 to trade at $56.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.26% to 0.7546, while CAD/EUR rose 0.67% to 0.6939.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 98.875.
