Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the REITs, Real Estate and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which rose 5.18% or 2.90 points to trade at 58.93 at the close. Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TSX:KEL) added 4.94% or 0.30 points to end at 6.37 and Killam Properties Inc (TSX:KMP_u) was up 3.07% or 0.52 points to 17.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR), which lost 10.05% or 0.81 points to trade at 7.25 in late trade. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) declined 9.91% or 0.42 points to end at 3.82 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) shed 8.05% or 0.90 points to 10.28.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 528 to 428 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.30% to 14.48.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 2.90% or 69.90 to $2,343.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.11% or 0.09 to hit $82.13 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.10 to trade at $87.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.38% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 105.96.
