Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Alaris Royalty Corp . (TSX:AD), which rose 9.76% or 0.95 points to trade at 10.68 at the close. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) added 9.41% or 0.080 points to end at 0.930 and MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) was up 7.83% or 1.34 points to 18.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 6.94% or 1.660 points to trade at 22.260 in late trade. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) declined 6.90% or 0.91 points to end at 12.28 and Real Matters Inc (TSX:REAL) shed 5.81% or 1.38 points to 22.37.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 593 to 423 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.08% or 1.40 to $1750.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.28% or 0.10 to hit $35.59 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.88% or 0.71 to trade at $38.55 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.47% to 0.7368, while CAD/EUR rose 1.23% to 0.6619.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 97.817.
