Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb), which rose 6.52% or 1.29 points to trade at 21.07 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) added 5.81% or 0.25 points to end at 4.55 and Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN) was up 4.87% or 0.300 points to 6.460 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO), which lost 22.95% or 1.1200 points to trade at 3.7600 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) declined 13.55% or 0.970 points to end at 6.190 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 10.74% or 3.270 points to 27.180.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 587 to 442 and 133 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.51% to 13.79.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.93% or 14.10 to $1498.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.41% or 1.27 to hit $53.86 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $59.55 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.07% to 0.7527, while CAD/EUR rose 0.07% to 0.6837.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 98.420.
