Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Parkland Fuel Corporation (TSX:PKI), which rose 3.71% or 1.53 points to trade at 42.72 at the close. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) added 3.48% or 1.12 points to end at 33.31 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was up 2.98% or 1.49 points to 51.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA), which lost 5.87% or 0.93 points to trade at 14.91 in late trade. Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE) declined 3.57% or 0.81 points to end at 21.90 and Superior Plus Corp (TSX:SPB) shed 3.33% or 0.32 points to 9.28.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 585 to 363 and 96 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.00% to 11.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.39% or 7.95 to $2,050.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.44% or 0.32 to hit $72.38 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.75% or 0.59 to trade at $77.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.19% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 102.14.
