Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Staples, Real Estate and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which rose 6.09% or 0.60 points to trade at 10.54 at the close. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) added 5.10% or 0.260 points to end at 5.360 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) was up 4.92% or 1.06 points to 22.61 in late trade.
Biggest losers included OrganiGram Holdings Inc (TSX:OGI), which lost 5.63% or 0.20 points to trade at 3.35 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) declined 5.25% or 0.590 points to end at 10.640 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) shed 4.78% or 1.07 points to 21.31.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 556 to 411 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.81% or 14.35 to $1791.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.20% or 0.15 to hit $75.38 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.69% or 0.52 to trade at $76.36 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.95% to 0.8115, while CAD/EUR rose 0.82% to 0.6837.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 92.222.
