Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Industrials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Mullen Group Ltd . (TSX:MTL), which rose 11.75% or 1.38 points to trade at 13.12 at the close. Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) added 5.29% or 1.23 points to end at 24.47 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) was up 5.23% or 1.52 points to 30.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 9.16% or 0.36 points to trade at 3.57 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) declined 7.08% or 0.15 points to end at 1.97 and Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) shed 6.55% or 0.15 points to 2.14.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 605 to 426 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.37% to 21.66.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.09% or 18.60 to $1,718.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.60% or 3.60 to hit $96.28 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.88% or 3.08 to trade at $103.84 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 106.52.
