Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Consumer Discretionary and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Uni-Select Inc. (TSX:UNS), which rose 16.61% or 6.69 points to trade at 46.97 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) added 6.97% or 0.44 points to end at 6.75 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) was up 6.86% or 1.41 points to 21.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV), which lost 4.75% or 0.41 points to trade at 8.22 in late trade. Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT) declined 3.22% or 3.98 points to end at 119.67 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) shed 3.12% or 0.12 points to 3.73.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 593 to 404 and 96 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.63% to 12.67.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.39% or 7.05 to $1,824.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.72% or 0.55 to hit $75.77 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.71 to trade at $82.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.25% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 104.61.
