Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS), which rose 7.08% or 0.43 points to trade at 6.50 at the close. Trisura Group Ltd (TSX:TSU) added 7.07% or 2.45 points to end at 37.12 and Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT) was up 6.56% or 1.46 points to 23.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TSX:ZZZ), which lost 7.69% or 2.00 points to trade at 24.00 in late trade. Chartwell Retirement Residences (TSX:CSH_u) declined 3.80% or 0.35 points to end at 8.86 and Artis REIT (TSX:AX_u) shed 3.74% or 0.34 points to 8.75.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 519 to 432 and 119 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.48% to 12.50.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.42% or 7.75 to $1,844.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.83% or 0.64 to hit $77.69 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.09% or 0.91 to trade at $84.36 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.43% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 104.36.
