Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ), which rose 24.01% or 7.25 points to trade at 37.44 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) added 20.36% or 1.60 points to end at 9.46 and Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML) was up 17.61% or 0.25 points to 1.67 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u), which lost 4.63% or 1.43 points to trade at 29.47 in late trade. Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) declined 3.04% or 0.10 points to end at 3.19 and Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY) shed 2.60% or 3.29 points to 123.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 654 to 341 and 92 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.95% to 18.49.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 4.25 to $1,765.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.67% or 1.57 to hit $95.31 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.51% or 1.51 to trade at $101.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 0.77, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.77.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 108.53.
