Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, IT and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 11.85% or 1.100 points to trade at 10.380 at the close. NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI) added 5.70% or 1.52 points to end at 28.17 and Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH) was up 5.54% or 2.67 points to 50.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which lost 5.38% or 0.150 points to trade at 2.640 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) declined 4.34% or 1.185 points to end at 26.125 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) shed 4.21% or 0.4200 points to 9.5500.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 504 to 498 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 12.68.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.52% or 7.90 to $1531.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.21% or 0.13 to hit $61.19 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.27 to trade at $66.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.00% to 0.7701, while CAD/EUR rose 0.37% to 0.6892.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 96.480.
