Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 4.82% or 0.190 points to trade at 4.130 at the close. Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (TO:CMG) added 3.96% or 0.38 points to end at 9.98 and Cott Corporation (TO:BCB) was up 3.29% or 0.67 points to 21.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD), which lost 6.59% or 0.280 points to trade at 3.970 in late trade. Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TO:PEY) declined 4.88% or 0.63 points to end at 12.29 and Goldcorp Inc. (TO:G) shed 4.39% or 0.84 points to 18.29.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 695 to 466 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.55% to 12.47 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.65% or 8.70 to $1328.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.28% or 0.18 to hit $63.91 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.13 to trade at $69.28 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.14% to 0.8050, while CAD/EUR rose 0.52% to 0.6593.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 90.50.
