Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the REITs, Real Estate and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.16% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which rose 4.81% or 0.20 points to trade at 4.36 at the close. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) added 4.10% or 2.25 points to end at 57.11 and TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA) was up 3.10% or 0.37 points to 12.32 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which lost 5.81% or 4.11 points to trade at 66.57 in late trade. Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) declined 4.15% or 1.06 points to end at 24.50 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) shed 3.75% or 0.23 points to 5.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 497 to 484 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.05% to 14.29.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.50% or 10.10 to $2,029.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.11% or 1.72 to hit $83.25 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.89% or 1.62 to trade at $87.23 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.47% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.65% at 101.22.
