Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, Financials and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which rose 6.62% or 0.75 points to trade at 12.08 at the close. Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) added 5.43% or 0.15 points to end at 2.91 and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV) was up 5.24% or 0.43 points to 8.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR), which lost 11.94% or 1.10 points to trade at 8.11 in late trade. Jamieson Wellness Inc (TSX:JWEL) declined 7.76% or 2.82 points to end at 33.50 and Sprott Inc . (TSX:SII) shed 6.37% or 3.17 points to 46.58.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 594 to 370 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.19% to 12.88.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.47% or 8.55 to $1,818.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.51% or 1.14 to hit $76.53 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.34% or 1.10 to trade at $83.31 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.40% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.06% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.61% at 105.17.
