Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the IT, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.11% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Mattr Corp (TSX:MATR), which rose 7.28% or 1.12 points to trade at 16.51 at the close. Lundin Gold Inc (TSX:LUG) added 3.89% or 0.62 points to end at 16.54 and Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) was up 3.40% or 0.83 points to 25.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which lost 4.99% or 0.20 points to trade at 3.81 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) declined 3.83% or 0.13 points to end at 3.26 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) shed 3.62% or 0.54 points to 14.37.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 549 to 396 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.67% to 11.49.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.03% or 0.65 to $2,018.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.83% or 0.64 to hit $78.00 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 1.16 to trade at $83.59 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 103.27.
