Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 7.68% or 0.79 points to trade at 11.08 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) added 6.89% or 0.42 points to end at 6.52 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TSX:PD) was up 6.29% or 4.02 points to 67.89 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp (TSX:AQN), which lost 4.64% or 0.51 points to trade at 10.47 in late trade. Thomson Reuters Corp (TSX:TRI) declined 3.84% or 6.88 points to end at 172.36 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) shed 3.74% or 0.26 points to 6.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 598 to 348 and 125 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.20% to 13.15.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.79% or 15.10 to $1,930.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.62% or 1.88 to hit $73.68 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.34% or 1.79 to trade at $78.31 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.71% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.89% at 101.95.
