Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.08% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 3.57% or 0.12 points to trade at 3.48 at the close. BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) added 3.46% or 2.22 points to end at 66.40 and Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TSX:KL) was up 3.45% or 1.830 points to 54.800 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Norbord Inc (TSX:OSB), which lost 2.02% or 0.77 points to trade at 37.36 in late trade. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) declined 1.87% or 0.30 points to end at 15.74 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) shed 1.61% or 0.12 points to 7.33.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 559 to 473 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 25.14% to 10.54.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.09% or 1.30 to $1462.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.15% or 0.09 to hit $58.20 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.27 to trade at $63.28 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7531, while CAD/EUR fell 0.05% to 0.6842.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 98.295.
