Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM), which rose 9.35% or 0.50 points to trade at 5.85 at the close. Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN) added 8.37% or 0.57 points to end at 7.38 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) was up 8.03% or 1.03 points to 13.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which lost 6.46% or 0.47 points to trade at 6.81 in late trade. Bank of Nova Scotia (TSX:BNS) declined 5.25% or 4.24 points to end at 76.54 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) shed 2.75% or 1.19 points to 42.06.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 573 to 421 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.64% to 19.87.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.70% or 12.25 to $1,760.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.61% or 3.26 to hit $93.62 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.81% or 3.68 to trade at $100.16 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.88% to 0.77, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.64% to 0.77.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.46% at 108.48.
