Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the REITs, IT and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.03% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which rose 4.94% or 89.61 points to trade at 1903.79 at the close. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) added 4.09% or 0.48 points to end at 12.23 and H&R Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:HR_u) was up 3.33% or 0.54 points to 16.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG), which lost 5.97% or 0.34 points to trade at 5.28 in late trade. Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb) declined 5.36% or 1.56 points to end at 27.56 and Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE) shed 5.26% or 0.65 points to 11.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 619 to 375 and 111 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.79% or 14.15 to $1797.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.18% or 1.64 to hit $73.52 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 3.20% or 2.47 to trade at $74.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.99% to 0.8022, while CAD/EUR fell 0.64% to 0.6785.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 92.558.
