Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Utilities and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH), which rose 10.12% or 0.34 points to trade at 3.70 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) added 6.04% or 2.86 points to end at 50.18 and North West Company Inc (TSX:NWC) was up 5.77% or 2.17 points to 39.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which lost 5.35% or 0.16 points to trade at 2.83 in late trade. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) declined 5.07% or 1.07 points to end at 20.02 and Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TSX:LB) shed 4.13% or 1.09 points to 25.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 578 to 406 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.09% to 11.46.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.13% or 2.65 to $2,045.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.37% or 0.26 to hit $69.64 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.12 to trade at $74.42 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.32% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.46% at 103.62.
