Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA), which rose 15.30% or 0.950 points to trade at 7.160 at the close. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) added 6.23% or 0.370 points to end at 6.310 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) was up 6.08% or 0.6300 points to 11.0000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which lost 12.54% or 0.430 points to trade at 3.000 in late trade. Alamos Gold Inc (TSX:AGI) declined 12.13% or 0.91 points to end at 6.59 and Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) shed 8.14% or 0.450 points to 5.080.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 552 to 516 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.58% to 12.70.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.86% or 12.95 to $1484.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.27% or 0.68 to hit $52.91 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $58.86 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.07% to 0.7580, while CAD/EUR rose 0.07% to 0.6869.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 98.015.
