Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which rose 5.58% or 0.97 points to trade at 18.34 at the close. Winpak Ltd. (TSX:WPK) added 5.17% or 2.13 points to end at 43.29 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) was up 5.26% or 0.42 points to 8.51 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX), which lost 6.03% or 0.57 points to trade at 8.89 in late trade. Empire Company Ltd (TSX:EMPa) declined 4.20% or 1.77 points to end at 40.38 and Granite REIT (TSX:GRT_u) shed 3.05% or 2.59 points to 82.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 586 to 418 and 127 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.05% or 0.80 to $1778.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.59% or 0.43 to hit $73.28 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.70% or 0.52 to trade at $75.33 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.8126, while CAD/EUR rose 0.18% to 0.6815.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 91.808.
