Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO), which rose 48.97% or 1.42 points to trade at 4.32 at the close. MAG Silver Corp (TO:MAG) added 10.73% or 0.87 points to end at 8.98 and Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TO:GOOS) was up 9.81% or 7.60 points to 85.09 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cineplex Inc . (TO:CGX), which lost 20.78% or 7.49 points to trade at 28.56 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) declined 11.30% or 5.750 points to end at 45.140 and Chorus Aviation Inc (TO:CHR) shed 10.63% or 0.780 points to 6.560.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 650 to 467 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.83% to 18.87.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.07% or 12.80 to $1212.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.97% or 0.54 to hit $56.23 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.96% or 0.63 to trade at $66.10 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7553, while CAD/EUR fell 0.25% to 0.6675.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 96.82.
