July 30 (Reuters) - Downer EDI Ltd DOW.AX :

* first contract will be valued at approximately a$420 million

* received two letters of award from adani mining pty

* letters advising of its intention to enter into contracts in relation to coal handling and preparation plant at proposed carmichael coal mine in central queensland

* second letter of award relates to activities for chpp to be performed by downer, with an estimated value of a$260 million over initial five year term

* first letter of award relates to the engineering, procurement and construction works for the chpp

* condition precedents in contracts expected to include adani obtaining statutory approvals and project finance to develop the proposed mine

* both letters of award are subject to parties executinG binding contracts
