Australian Shares Rebound 1.2%, Add 0.1% for the Week

Investing.com - The S&P/ASX 200 added 95 points or 1.29% to 7,453.30 on Friday, snapping two sessions of consecutive losses and finishing the week 0.11% higher as investors digested a hawkish pivot in the Federal Reserve monetary policy settings earlier in the week.

Among stocks, Energy companies posted the largest gains as Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) added 2.77%, Santos Ltd (ASX:STO) gained 2.88%, APA Group (ASX:APA) added 4.3% and Woodside Petroleum Ltd (ASX:WPL) lifted 2.21%.

Financials gained, reflecting higher long term bond yields as Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX:MQG) added 1.15%, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd (ASX:ANZ) lifted 2.6%, Commonwealth Bank Of Australia (ASX:CBA) gained 2.68%, National Australia Bank Ltd (ASX:NAB) lifted 1.55%, and Westpac Banking Corp (ASX:WBC) added 1.26%.

Technology stocks mostly gained with Brainchip Holdings Ltd (ASX:BRN) surging 9.6%, Computershare Ltd. (ASX:CPU) up 2.19%, Wisetech Global Ltd (ASX:WTC) adding 3.44% and Nextdc Ltd (ASX:NXT) adding 0.43%, while Novonix Ltd (ASX:NVX) fell 5.94%, Altium Ltd (ASX:ALU) lost 0.32%, Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) shed 0.5% and Xero Ltd (ASX:XRO) dipped 0.51%.

Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT) added 3.02% while Zip Co Ltd (ASX:Z1P) lost 0.78%.

Airline stocks finished higher as Qantas Airways Ltd (ASX:QAN) added 0.4%, Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) gained 0.39% , Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB) lifted 2.51% and Sydney Airport Holdings Ltd (ASX:SYD) added 0.23%.

Mining heavyweights surged, with Rio Tinto Ltd (ASX:RIO) up 2.39%, BHP Billiton Ltd (ASX:BHP) adding 2.46% and Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (ASX:FMG) up 3.14%. Rare earth miners also gained with Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS) up 2.94% Lake Resources NL (ASX:LKE) gaining 3.68%, Magnis Resources Ltd (ASX:MNS) up 0.96% and Lynas Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:LYC) lifting 2.98%.

On the bond markets, Australia 10-Year rates were at 1.844%, while United States 10-Year yields lifted to fresh 9-month highs of 1.723%.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 finished 0.1% lower at 12,971.
