HANOI, April 20 (Reuters) - Australia's Qantas Airways QAN.AX and Vietnam Airlines will invest $139 million in their Jetstar Pacific joint venture by 2020 to treble the size of its fleet, according to a Vietnamese government news report on Wednesday.
Qantas will invest $100 million while flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will make up the rest to increase the fleet of Vietnam-based Jetstar Pacific to 30, the government news website cited executives from the companies as saying.
Vietnam Airlines holds 70 percent of the eight-year-old Jetstar Pacific, Vietnam's first low-cost carrier, while Qantas holds 30 percent.
The announcement comes as Vietnamese airlines are expanding their fleets to keep up with a strong flight passengers growth, among the fastest in Asia Pacific, in a country of 90 million.
