Investing.com - The S&P/ASX 200 lifted 23.9 points or 0.32% to 7418.2 in early deals on Tuesday, extending record high valuations following gains of 0.18% in the previous session as sentiment was buoyed by fresh record closes on Wall Street, while mining stocks also received a boost amid strong earnings and high commodity prices.
On the coronavirus front, Victoria reported 10 fresh cases this morning as the state moves toward easing restrictions, while New South Wales reported 145 cases yesterday as Premier Gladys Berejiklian again tightened restrictions throughout Greater Sydney.
Among stocks, OZ Minerals Ltd (ASX:OZL) surged 9.17% after reporting a strong rise in copper production, while Oil Search Ltd (ASX:OSH) added 0.51% after reporting a sharp rise in second-quarter revenue. Meantime, A2 Milk Company Ltd (ASX:A2M) continued its slump, falling 3.44%.
On the bond market, local 10-year bond yields were at 1.216% while US 10-year rates held at 1.288%.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 lost 33.46 points or 0.26% to 12639.77.
