Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Telecoms and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC), which rose 6.57% or 1.13 points to trade at 18.33 at the close. Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) added 6.29% or 0.300 points to end at 5.070 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) was up 5.90% or 1.650 points to 29.610 in late trade.
Biggest losers included OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC), which lost 6.45% or 0.300 points to trade at 4.350 in late trade. Cameco Corp (TO:CCO) declined 4.83% or 0.71 points to end at 13.99 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) shed 3.15% or 0.130 points to 4.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 640 to 498 and 134 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.07% to 13.35.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.81% or 9.75 to $1218.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.30% or 0.16 to hit $53.72 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $56.76 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.18% to 0.7677, while CAD/EUR rose 0.22% to 0.7134.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 99.80.
