Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Transportation and Industrial Engineering sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.52%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were SABMiller PLC (L:SAB), which rose 9.02% or 326.50 points to trade at 3948.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Inmarsat PLC (L:ISA) added 1.69% or 15.50 points to end at 931.50 and Carnival PLC (L:CCL) was up 1.68% or 56.00 points to 3390.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR), which fell 5.27% or 71.00 points to trade at 1277.00 at the close. Royal Mail PLC (L:RMG) declined 4.17% or 19.70 points to end at 452.50 and Tesco PLC (L:TSCO) was down 3.86% or 7.8000 points to 194.0500.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1421 to 686 and 464 ended unchanged.

Shares in SABMiller PLC (L:SAB) rose to all time highs; up 9.02% or 326.50 to 3948.00.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.17% or 2.00 to $1166.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.38% or 0.65 to hit $47.75 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.32 to trade at $50.57 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.67% to 1.5246, while EUR/GBP rose 0.91% to 0.7468.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.11% at 94.79.
