Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos told CNN in an interview that he plans to give away the majority of his net worth during his lifetime.
Bezos told CNN he will give the bulk of his $124 billion net worth to "fighting climate change and supporting people who can unify humanity in the face of deep social and political divisions."
While the report states that Bezos was light on the specifics, it is the first time he has said he plans to give away most of his money.
In his sit-down interview with CNN, Bezos said he and his partner, Lauren Sánchez, are “building the capacity to be able to give away this money,” and when asked if he plans to donate most of his wealth during his lifetime, Bezos replied, "yeah, I do."
Bezos stepped down from his role as chief executive at Amazon last year, stating at the time that he planned to focus on "new products and early initiatives."
