Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Chemicals and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 3.42% or 63.00 points to trade at 1905.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 2.19% or 6.70 points to end at 312.20 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 1.65% or 4.10 points to 253.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which lost 7.13% or 307.00 points to trade at 4000.00 in late trade. Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) declined 3.20% or 10.80 points to end at 326.40 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 2.65% or 185.00 points to 6785.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1126 to 801 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.00% or 12.82 to $1264.68 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.30% or 0.15 to hit $49.08 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.10 to trade at $52.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.32% to 1.2836, while EUR/GBP rose 0.33% to 0.8522.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 98.66.
