The Australian Government has lost its one-seat majority, following the High Court's ruling on seven dual national MPs.
The Court found that Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce was disqualified from being elected to Parliament. Joyce was born in Australia but his father was born in New Zealand, which automatically confers citizenship to him under New Zealand law.
A by-election is likely to be held in Joyce's seat of New England in the first week of December. Joyce may not be eligible to contest the election.
