Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Uni-Select Inc. (TO:UNS), which rose 12.85% or 7.17 points to trade at 62.97 at the close. Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) added 9.49% or 0.45 points to end at 5.19 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) was up 9.08% or 0.54 points to 6.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG), which lost 8.70% or 0.63 points to trade at 6.61 in late trade. DH Corp (TO:DH) declined 7.98% or 2.69 points to end at 31.01 and West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) shed 7.56% or 3.26 points to 39.88.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 449 to 393 and 76 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.26% to 15.46.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 1.50% or 18.80 to $1269.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.10% or 0.50 to hit $45.83 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.21% or 0.57 to trade at $47.50 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.44% to 0.7972, while CAD/EUR rose 0.19% to 0.7023.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.67% at 93.75.
