Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electricity, Iron & Steel and Optoelectronic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted gained 0.54% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Bestec Power (TW:3308), which rose 10.00% or 0.79 points to trade at 8.69 at the close. Action Eltr (TW:3024) added 9.91% or 0.320 points to end at 3.550 and Mbi (TW:1783) was up 9.91% or 2.25 points to 24.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Candmark (TW:5259), which lost 10.00% or 0.26 points to trade at 2.34 in late trade. Tainan Cayman (TW:5906) declined 9.89% or 0.820 points to end at 7.470 and Sintronic Tech (TW:3536) shed 3.91% or 0.50 points to 12.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 569 to 190 and 94 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.57% or 0.26 to $46.01 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.59% or 0.28 to hit $47.45 a barrel, while the August Gold contract fell 0.15% or 1.95 to trade at $1317.35 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.10% to 32.015, while TWD/CNY rose 0.14% to 0.2089.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.17% at 96.99.
