Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Oil & Gas Producers and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.54%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sage Group PLC (L:SGE), which rose 5.16% or 30.00 points to trade at 611.50 at the close. Meanwhile, EasyJet PLC (L:EZJ) added 2.76% or 45.000 points to end at 1675.000 and Randgold Resources Ltd (L:RRS) was up 2.63% or 110.00 points to 4289.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR), which fell 3.43% or 38.00 points to trade at 1070.00 at the close. Mondi PLC (L:MNDI) declined 3.31% or 51.00 points to end at 1490.00 and Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) was down 3.25% or 2.9300 points to 87.2900.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1396 to 730 and 454 ended unchanged.
Shares in Sage Group PLC (L:SGE) rose to all time highs; up 5.16% or 30.00 to 611.50.
Gold for February delivery was up 2.37% or 25.10 to $1086.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.56% or 1.05 to hit $40.03 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.43% or 0.62 to trade at $43.22 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.26% to 1.5104, while EUR/GBP fell 0.23% to 0.7208.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 98.29.
