Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Mining, IT and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TO:IFP), which rose 8.46% or 1.02 points to trade at 13.07 at the close. Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP) added 8.36% or 1.14 points to end at 14.78 and West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) was up 6.44% or 2.45 points to 40.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which lost 6.33% or 0.69 points to trade at 10.21 in late trade. Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC) declined 4.72% or 1.59 points to end at 32.12 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) shed 4.63% or 0.72 points to 14.83.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 574 to 563 and 130 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.94% to 12.21 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.04% or 0.55 to $1332.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.63% or 0.29 to hit $45.97 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.23 to trade at $47.60 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.45% to 0.7722, while CAD/EUR rose 0.14% to 0.6987.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.54% at 96.62.
