Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Financials, Industrials and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB), which rose 11.11% or 1.03 points to trade at 10.30 at the close. Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO:FVI) added 6.13% or 0.40 points to end at 6.92 and Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) was up 5.48% or 1.340 points to 25.800 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM), which lost 7.02% or 0.66 points to trade at 8.74 in late trade. Extendicare Inc (TO:EXE) declined 3.68% or 0.39 points to end at 10.09 and Methanex Corporation (TO:MX) shed 3.16% or 2.03 points to 62.31.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 625 to 485 and 157 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 14.21% to 11.35.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.10% or 1.30 to $1246.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.79% or 0.40 to hit $50.75 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.00% or 0.53 to trade at $53.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.27% to 0.7515, while CAD/EUR rose 0.43% to 0.7050.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 100.39.
