Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 3.34% or 42.00 points to trade at 1300.00 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) added 1.93% or 37.50 points to end at 1976.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 1.89% or 9.50 points to 512.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH), which lost 3.05% or 85.00 points to trade at 2698.00 in late trade. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) declined 2.92% or 14.800 points to end at 492.200 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 2.51% or 4.10 points to 159.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1292 to 831 and 464 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.44% or 5.95 to $1348.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.47% or 0.66 to hit $45.49 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.54% or 0.73 to trade at $47.99 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.77% to 1.3336, while EUR/GBP rose 0.60% to 0.8426.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.21% at 95.00.
