Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas Producers, Industrial Metals & Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which rose 4.69% or 77.00 points to trade at 1718.00 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 3.88% or 7.50 points to end at 200.90 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) was up 1.97% or 10.00 points to 516.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb), which lost 3.98% or 89.50 points to trade at 2161.00 in late trade. Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LON:RDSa) declined 3.50% or 76.50 points to end at 2108.50 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 2.61% or 195.00 points to 7275.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1451 to 544 and 388 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.30% or 3.81 to $1254.89 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.77% or 0.38 to hit $49.45 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.73% or 0.38 to trade at $52.59 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.25% to 1.3003, while EUR/GBP fell 0.52% to 0.8560.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 97.48.
